The Team

Skylar Tsurudome

Skylar Tsurudome is a Junior at Junipero Serra High School. His passion for mountain biking, photography, and exploration has taught him a special appreciation for nature. Prior to Junipero Serra High School, Skylar attended Crocker Middle School and West Hillsborough Elementary. During his time at both schools, he got the opportunity to attend San Mateo County’s Outdoor Education twice, once as a student and the other as a cabin leader. His schooling also brought him to the natural wonders of the world: Zion, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and the Valley of Fire. On these trips, Skylar noticed his classmates’ amazement while gazing at nature’s beauty despite most of them not being the “outside“ type. He wanted everyone to experience the greatness of nature without the need to travel to the stunning cliffs of Yosemite or the deep vastness of the Grand Canyon. After failing to make his own photography book, Skylar looked for alternatives. Drafting up the idea that is the basis for Ecoition, he wanted to inspire people to appreciate their own surrounding nature instead of wonders captured miles away.

Ella Roslansky

Ella Roslansky is a Junior at San Mateo High School. Prior to San Mateo, Ella attended Crocker Middle School and West Hillsborough Elementary school. She loves hiking and running, giving her a unique perspective about the beauty of nature. After running at Crystal Springs trail, she was disappointed about the amount of trash found on the trail. She through that if people knew the impact that one piece of trash had on the environment, that they would be way less likely to litter. That was when the issue of education about the environment became clear to her. After a recent trip to Iceland, Ella noticed the mass quantities of environmental education opportinutes, and took inspiration from that. Through Ecoition, she hopes to give people a different perspective about the environment because we only have one earth, and we only get one chance.
